About TreeNerd

The tree care authority hub — built by the people doing the work.

TreeNerd is a reference and tools platform for the tree care industry. We started it because the best arboriculture knowledge was scattered across PDFs, forum threads and half-remembered training — and the open web filled the gap with generic, often wrong, content. So we built the place we wished existed: field tools you'll actually bookmark, libraries that cross-link the way the job does, and a credibility standard you can trust.

Why we exist

One authoritative home for tree work.

Arboriculture sits at the intersection of biology, engineering and hard physical risk. Get a rigging load wrong and someone gets hurt; misread a pest and a client loses a century-old tree. The stakes are too high for content written by people who've never tied into a tree.

Our mission is simple: be the most trusted, most useful resource in the industry. For the professional, that means daily-use calculators, a deep species and pest reference, CEUs and a job board. For the homeowner staring at a leaning oak, it means a plain-English answer and a clear path to a certified arborist. Same authority, two front doors.

We sit in front of Tree Nerd Academy — our hands-on training — and feed it people who want to go deeper. Everything we publish has to earn its place by being more accurate, more practical and more honest than whatever it's competing with in search.

The credibility layer

How we keep it credible

Anyone can publish tree content. The bar that matters is whether a working arborist would stake their reputation on it. Here's the standard every page has to clear.

By arborists, for arborists
Every tool and library entry is reviewed by working, credentialed pros before it ships — not generated and forgotten.
ISA-aligned content
Built around the certification body of knowledge and CEU standards, so what you read here lines up with the field.
Real bylines, real credentials
Contributors carry their qualifications on the page. No anonymous SEO filler, no ghost-written guesswork.
Cross-checked and current
Species, pests and treatments are cross-linked and revisited as guidance changes — a living reference, not a brochure.
The two-door model

One brand, two front doors

Pros and homeowners want very different things from a tree care site. Rather than water down either, we built distinct experiences that share one authoritative spine — and meet at the directory, where homeowner demand finds professional supply.

Who's behind it

The people behind TreeNerd

Herman
Herman
Tech, funnel & gear
Runs Arboristbutiken, Sweden's arborist and climbing-gear shop, so he's spent years hearing exactly what working climbers buy, return and argue about at the counter. That retail floor is where most of TreeNerd's tool ideas started. He builds the tech side of the site: the directory, the calculators, Arborist AI, and the plumbing that turns a search result into a bookmark. Off the clock he posts about building software in public on his own YouTube channel.

ISA Board Certified Master Arborist · FL 6714B
Eighteen years in tree care, nine of them keeping Sanibel Island's canopy standing through salt spray, sandy soil and hurricane season for Tree West. Now he runs Plant Health Care at Joshua Tree: soil diagnostics, integrated pest management, and the root-zone work that actually saves a tree. He also built Tree Nerd Academy from the ground up and has walked hundreds of candidates through the ISA Certified Arborist exam, so TreeNerd's library gets written and checked by someone who's graded the real test.

Beyond the two of us, TreeNerd is written and reviewed by a network of credentialed contributors — ISA-certified arborists, consulting arborists and PHC specialists. Every byline carries real qualifications, and we name our sources. If you're a working pro who wants to contribute, we'd like to hear from you.
