Terms of Service for TreeNerd
Last updated: June 28, 2026
Welcome to TreeNerd. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of https://treenerd.com (the “Site”) and the services we provide on it. By using the Site, you agree to these Terms; if you do not agree, please do not use the Site. Questions: hello@treenerd.com.
1. What TreeNerd is
TreeNerd is a resource hub for the tree care industry: reference libraries for tree species, pests, and diseases; field calculators and tools; industry news and a newsletter; a continuing-education (CEU) tracker; a job board and a talent marketplace where professionals publish profiles to be hired; a directory of licensed tree care businesses; and a service that connects homeowners with those businesses for quotes. Some features require an account, and the Tree Nerd Pro subscription unlocks others.
2. Accounts
We sign you in with a one-time link or code sent to your email — no passwords. Keep your email address current and do not let others use your account; you are responsible for activity under it. You must be at least 13 to use the Site, and at least 18 to request quotes, claim a business listing, or buy a subscription. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms.
3. Tree Nerd Pro subscription
- Tree Nerd Pro is a recurring subscription, currently $19 per month or $209 per year, billed in advance through Stripe at the price shown at checkout (plus any applicable taxes).
- Your subscription renews automatically at the then-current price for the same period — monthly or yearly — until you cancel. We charge the payment method on file each renewal. Cancel anytime from your account or by emailing hello@treenerd.com; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Payments are generally non-refundable, except where required by law. When you cancel, your subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period and does not renew; we do not refund or prorate the unused portion of a period. If you believe you were charged in error, email us and we will look into it — we are reasonable.
- Payments for Tree Nerd Pro are processed through Stripe. In some cases Stripe acts as our authorized reseller and merchant of record for the subscription: your card statement, receipts, and invoices may show that the subscription was “Sold through” Stripe, and Stripe may handle billing support, refunds, chargebacks, and the calculation and remittance of any applicable sales tax. Where Stripe is the merchant of record, Stripe’s customer terms also apply to the payment.
- We may change subscription pricing with advance notice; changes apply from your next renewal.
Paid placements and postings (for businesses).
- Businesses may purchase paid products such as job postings and featured or sponsored directory placements. One-time products (for example, job postings) are charged once and are non-refundable once live; recurring placements (featured listings and city sponsorships) renew automatically until cancelled, the same way the Pro subscription does.
- Paid placement buys visibility only — it is not an endorsement and does not guarantee any number of leads, applicants, or results. We may decline, edit, or remove any posting or placement that violates these Terms, without refund for the violating content.
4. Educational content — not professional advice
This is the most important section. Everything on TreeNerd — articles, guides, species and pest profiles, calculators, cost estimates, and AI photo analysis — is general information for education and planning. It is not professional advice, and it is not a substitute for an on-site assessment by a qualified, certified arborist.
- Cost estimates are based on regional averages; real quotes vary with conditions only an on-site visit can reveal.
- AI photo analysis can be wrong. A photo cannot capture everything about a tree’s condition.
- Tree work is genuinely dangerous. Do not climb, cut, or fell trees, or work near power lines, based on something you read here. Hire a professional. In an emergency involving power lines or an immediate hazard, call your utility or 911.
5. The directory and quote requests
For homeowners:
- Directory listings are compiled from public records — mainly state license rosters — and other public sources. We work to keep them accurate, but records can be outdated or incomplete. Verify a company’s current license and insurance directly before hiring.
- A listing on TreeNerd is not an endorsement, and we do not guarantee any company’s work. When you hire a company, your contract is with that company, not with us. We are not a party to it and are not responsible for the work performed, the pricing, or any dispute — though if a listed company treats you badly, we want to know.
- When you submit a quote request, you authorize us to provide your request details — including the photos, description, and contact information you supply, and an AI-generated summary of your photos — to one or more tree care businesses so they can contact you with a quote. These businesses may pay us a fee to receive your request. We describe how this works, and your choices, in our Privacy Policy.
For tree care businesses:
- You may claim only a business you are authorized to represent, and everything you submit — license information, credentials, business details — must be truthful. We may verify claims and credentials, and may edit, decline, or remove any listing, including for accuracy, suspected misrepresentation, or legal reasons.
- Basic listings are free, and so is getting your listing corrected or removed: use the “Update or remove” link on your profile page or email hello@treenerd.com — no account required.
For the talent marketplace: Professionals may publish a profile to be contacted by employers. Information you publish must be truthful and about you, and you can edit or remove it at any time. Employer contact is handled through the platform; do not use it to spam, harass, or collect personal data outside the service. Employers contact and hire professionals at their own risk — any engagement is between the employer and the professional, not with us.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of what you submit — photos, applications, listing content, certificates, articles. You grant us the license we need to operate the service: to host, store, display, and process your content, and to share it where you have asked us to (for example, quote requests to companies, job applications to employers). Do not submit content that is unlawful, infringing, or false. We may remove content that violates these Terms.
7. Acceptable use
Do not:
- Scrape, harvest, or bulk-download the directory or other Site data, or resell or republish it;
- Claim or edit a listing for a business you do not represent, or impersonate anyone;
- Submit fake quote requests, applications, or credentials;
- Probe, overload, or interfere with the Site, or bypass access controls;
- Use the Site for anything unlawful.
8. Our content
The Site’s content, design, and tools belong to TreeNerd or its licensors. You may use them for personal use and in your day-to-day professional work. You may embed our calculators on your own site using the embed feature we provide, which includes attribution. Do not republish our content at scale or strip the attribution.
9. Affiliate links
Some gear and product links on the Site are affiliate links: if you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never changes what we recommend.
10. Third-party services
Payments run on Stripe, email on Resend, and links on the Site may lead to websites we do not control. Third-party services have their own terms and policies, and we are not responsible for them.
11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Site is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including accuracy of content and fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, TreeNerd is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for property damage, personal injury, or losses arising from tree work, from reliance on Site content, or from your dealings with companies, employers, or other users you find through the Site. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or $50 if you have paid us nothing. Some states do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
12. Indemnification
If someone brings a claim against us because of content you submitted or your breach of these Terms, you agree to cover the resulting costs and damages.
13. Termination
You can stop using TreeNerd, cancel your subscription, or ask us to delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive — including content licenses still needed to fulfill requests you made, disclaimers, and liability limits — survive termination.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Sweden, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and you and TreeNerd submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Swedish courts for any dispute not resolved informally. Nothing here removes mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under the law of the country where you live. If you have a dispute with us, email hello@treenerd.com first — most issues can be solved with a conversation.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will post changes here and update the date at the top; for material changes we will notify account holders by email. Continuing to use the Site after changes take effect means you accept them.
